  • The 4 Days Bird Watching Safari Rwanda takes you to the most interesting destinations in the land of a thousand hills. Explore Nyungwe Forest, the massive montane forest found in southern Rwanda and the largest in Central Africa. Nyungwe Forest National Park is home to 13 primate species including chimpanzees and large groups of Rwenzori Colobus. Around 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies are other attractions that are within the park

Itinerary

When you arrive at Kigali airport, you will be welcomed by our tour guide and straight away start bird watching because Rwanda birds are among the welcoming biodiversity around the place. Then you will be transferred to the lodge or hotel for check in.

Today you will transfer to Akagera National Park about 5 hour drive from Kigali City, later in the afternoon you will embark on a game drive where you will have chance to see some animals including; elephants, zebras, giraffes, impalas, topis, bush bucks, eland, warthogs, baboons, Mongoose, the hippos, the crocodiles and various bird species.

After morning breakfast, you will embark on your full day bird watching in Akagera National Park which is always impressed by what they find, mostly the many bird species that range from water to forest and also savannah as well as the migratory bird species and many of these are endemic to the park, and are so rare like the papyrus gonolex which is found in the papyrus swamps. In afternoon, you will have boat trip along Lake Ihema, this give you the opportunity to get close to the plentiful water birds including numerous African fish eagles, marabou stork, crowned cranes, open-billed stork, cormorants, herons and egrets. If you are lucky you may even get to see the elusive shoebill stork.

After morning breakfast, you will have en-route drive as move out to the Park with lunch en-route as drive back to airport for your evening flight

Nyungwe National Park:This park, with its Afromontane rainforests, is a prime location for spotting Albertine Rift endemics like the handsome francolin, red-collared mountain babbler, and Ruwenzori nightjar. Akagera National Park:This savannah park is home to papyrus swamps, woodlands, and lakes, attracting birds like the shoebill stork, papyrus gonolek, and African wattled plover. Bugesera:The wetlands and lakes in Bugesera offer excellent birding opportunities. Look out for species like the papyrus gonolek, papyrus canary, and white-collared oliveback. Kigali:Believe it or not, even Rwanda's capital, Kigali, has some great birding locations. The Rwanda Museum Gardens and Lake Nyarutarama are perfect for spotting birds like the grey-capped olive-back and variable sunbird.
