Volcanoes National Park is located in the northwestern part of Rwanda and is part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area, which spans the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Covering approximately 160 square kilometers, the park is renowned for its volcanic mountains, lush montane forests, and as a sanctuary for the critically endangered mountain gorillas. The park is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes that form its landscape, including Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke, and Mount Sabyinyo.
